IMPACT the ability of college students with disabilities!

“Mentoring at IMPACTability means empowering college students with disabilities to become self-advocates who know their skills and take charge of their career goals.”

IMPACTability’s mission is to fight for equal access to employment opportunities for college students with disabilities. Getting a job is hard; for college students with disabilities, it can be daunting. Their employment outlook is bleak: three out of four undergraduates with disabilities are unemployed after graduating. Our volunteer-led nonprofit equips students for successful job searches that will ultimately change lives. IMPACTability’s CareerReady! online certificate program has served college students with disabilities at the City University of New York (CUNY), the nation’s largest urban public university system since 2018. Over 10,000 students with disabilities attend CUNY. Many participants in our program are students of color, immigrants, Veterans, or the first in their family to attend college.

CareerReady! brings college students from multiple generations, disability identities, and campuses into one united cohort. From transferable life skills to acing the interview, we deliver a no-cost semester program that motivates students, connects them with mentors, and offers career preparation and resources to open doors to meaningful employment. Our trusted mentors represent two dozen professions. CareerReady! also increases social connections and reduces isolation. Many students never considered attending career fairs, signing up for student clubs, or joining professional groups, which are leadership and networking opportunities. Self-confidence grows as students engage in activities that peers without disabilities routinely experience. One program graduate said it best, “The program helped me to prepare for getting a job, face my interviewing nerves, and be an advocate for my future.” Learn more at
